Why forms ask for a percentage
Many job and admission forms ask for marks as a percentage, while schools and universities often grade on a 10-point CGPA. The two are not the same scale, so each board or university says how its grades convert, usually on the marksheet or in its rules.
The usual formulas
For Class 10 grades under its CGPA system, CBSE gave an indicative percentage as the CGPA multiplied by 9.5: a CGPA of 8.4 is about 79.8%. Many universities simply multiply by 10. Some subtract a number first and then multiply; for those, choose “My university’s” and enter the two numbers your university gives.
Percentage = (CGPA − subtract) × multiply
From a percentage back to CGPA
The same formula works backwards: divide the percentage by the multiplier and add back what was subtracted. With CBSE’s rule, 76% ÷ 9.5 is a CGPA of 8.0.
